Well, just a new version of the thread...and a more specific one.
Anyhoo...I'm kinda sad that Sway...the dude who looks like Ichi (see Legends listing), lost. I somehow knew he was gonna lose because of his Stevie Wonder song. It just didn't feel right when I was listening.
It's a shame cos I've always loved his singing style. It's just different. Thing is, his singing was better today, when he got removed, than yesterday!
btw, SC! Sorry, man! I couldn't text back. No load. @_@

That's too bad about Sway. I don't know the results, but the guy I don't like is Gideon. His cockiness just rubs me the wrong way (this will be the only time you will see the words "cock" and "rubs me" in the same sentence).
I'm kinda sad that Becky is gone. Damn, she's hot. Ah well, she didn't sing well and a lot of women don't think she deserved to be there. But that's last week.
Who else are your favorites?
I like Paris and I like Taylor. Both are soulful to the nth degree, but it's a hard year to predict. Ace Young will get lots of votes. Am I right ladies?

Sway just HAD to sing "Overjoyed."
GRAH. HOW PINOY.
Frankly I wish he sang something else as the song borders on the irritating in its repetitiveness and overplaying on Philippine airwaves.

In fairness, he did pretty well on the day he got kicked out. Sheesh. I wish he performed it that way the previous day. T_T
Thunder and Darth Paul loved Sway so much because he really resembles ichiwichi. Sway really struck a soft spot. ^^;;;

I love Sway...although admittedly not because he's the best singer, but cos he looks like Ichi (this was even before knowing he was pinoy). I get affected when the judges comment badly on him. Waaah...

Gray Hair Guy is Taylor Hicks.
Try and find some of his music (he has an independently released album called "Under The Radar") and give it a listen. The guy is a real musical talent.
Unfortunately, this is a pop-idol competition, and pop stands for popular. And what's popular in America will stand.
Sorry, my bad spelling. I meant Gedeon, not Gideon. He's the African-American guy with all the teeth. You know when he smiles. No human being should show that many teeth at the same time when they smile. There has to be a legal limit to the amount.
Unlike the last two years (it was clear as day Fantasia & Carrie Underwood were going to win) this year is hard to predict. If I had to guess at the American Idol, I'm guessing a woman will win again this year.
Chris Daughtry is coming along so right now a lot of people will say that he's the one to beat. Unfortunately he's also married - maybe that helps with women's fantasies and that will get him more votes, but Ace, unless he screws up royally (like sing completely off key), is the guy to beat. Chris is more real, but he might trip up on genres other than Pop/Rock. Ace is more Pop-centric, and Taylor is just Eccentric. Elliot will do well, and will probably outlast Taylor.
Girls, Paris Bennett is probably the best vocal/performer left - of course, people like Katharine McPhee (the vocal coach mom girl) - me, I'm not a fan. Don't know why. I feel so disengaged when I watch her.
Beware Kellie Pickler (the one who's mom left her when she was 2, and her dad is in prison). The girl's voice might be raw, but you can hear real potential in it. Partly due to sympathy vote, but mostly due to Country roots, she'll do well. Whether she'll win, so soon after Underwood last year, maybe not.
My prediction:
Eliminated next week: Melissa McGhee, Kinnick Skye, Bucky Covington, Will Makar.
KO Top 12 - Mandisa (Simon Cowell's "Bigger Stage" barb victim)
KO Top 11 - Kevin Covais (boy who looks like Chicken Little)
KO Top 10 - Ayla Brown (father is senator. Runs out of money to vote).
KO Top 9 - Gedeon McKinney (Mr. Teeth, people too blinded to see number to vote.)
KO Top 8 - Taylor Hicks (Gray Hair)
KO Top 7 - Ace Young (Too good looking, not great sounding)
KO Top 6 - Elliot Yamin (Good sounding, not great looking)
KO Top 5 - Kellie Pickler (In one of those "America forgot to vote" deals)
KO Top 4 - Chris Daughtry (Great everything, too married)
KO Top 3 - Lisa Tucker (In a battle of two African-American sweethearts, Paris & her, she loses)
KO Finals - Katharine McPhee (Her robotic-ness shines forth!)
Winner - Paris Bennett (thanks to help from the music industry and Simon Cowell).
Of course, if you vote to keep your favorites in the competition, this might change. To vote, send $43657 to my bank account. Remember your vote makes all the difference. You can vote now and at the end of the show.
The show's over, go vote now.

I never catch the girls performances, so I only know the guys. Or their voices anyway, since I don't know their names, I just give them nicknames. The Taylor guy (whom I call Tandang or grandpa in Tagalog) is awesome! And the guy who looks like Vin Diesel, too.

Katherine McPhee! I just love her voice and her looks. Kinda looks a bit like Amanda Bynes. In the men, I like the bald rocker dude who obviously I don't know the name. And also, Taylor Hicks. The dude has a nice soothing voice. But I don't see him winning American Idol. He is not very likeable with teens and young adults which make up the majority of AI's audience.
@thunder: I liked Sway also. I like to cheer for a countryman. :ok: Too bad he had to sing Overjoyed. The song is not meant for an American Idol performance.

Ugh, I hate Carrie Underwood. Up until the end, I was hoping Bo Bice would win. Wish they'd make a unisex-friendly song this time. The final song they asked Carrie and Bo to sing was obviously too female! It's as if they've already written Bo off. >_<

Yeah, I was actually pretty stunned that Carrie won last year, I was so sure that Bo would bag it.
TRP: Ah so that's what's her name, Katherine McPhee! She sounds great (of course I haven't heard the rest of the girls yet)! And she has been an early favorite of the judges, hasn't she?
And I agree, I don't think Taylor Hicks will last, either. Nothing to do with talent, though. It's just that they're looking for an American Idol and Hicks looks anything but. I think it's great that he's one of the finalists so he's not doing shabbily either, he's getting some notice at least!

There is a difference between cockiness and confidence. Brenna was cocky, Gedeon is confident. I really like Gedeon. Complaints about his teeth really bug me for some reason - I think he has a beautiful smile. No matter how many teeth he has - they are all perfectly straight and perly white. And there is nothing he can do to make anyone like his smile.
I also really liked Sway, and was sad to see him go. How Kevin and Will made it over Sway is beyond me.
Oh and also - as the word gets around that Ace is dating someone (and dating someone that may frustrate a lot of his squealing young female fans because of who she is), I think his popularity will drop quickly, and he will have to rely more on his voice than his looks to survive...a feat which I think would be a bit of a challenge for him.
My votes go to Mandissa, Paris, Elliott, Chris, Gedeon and Lisa. I liked Katherine's first song but she lost me with her second...we'll see how she does tonight before I decide on her.

Ha, this was my first season of American Idol - but I am thinking it will be my last!
Strike 1: Patrick was the first guy voted off (he actually was a great singer)
Strike 2: Sway got voted off, but Kevin, Will and Bucky stayed!
3rd and Final Strike: Gedeon got voted off...but Kevin and Bucky continue to survive!
:disagree: Boooo! I love you America, but you have proven that you can't be trusted to make the right votes in ANY arena!
P.S. - that Katharine McPhee is HOT...great voice, great face, lovely curves. That Becky had lovely eyes and the fact that there are two of her is nice, but she has little on McPhee!

Ok, now that the two singers I want out are gone...I think it'll be sad when another of the remaining six gets booted. The gals may not have performed well this night, but I think they're still great.
I loved McPhee's performance last week and tonight I loved Chris'. Kellie...I think she blew my ear drum when she sang the "are you still miiiiiiiiine" part of Unchained Melody. I usually like her but I think her singing was awful tonight.
McPhee and Paris should've switched songs during the last AI ep.

May 4 2006, 01:25 PM
uh oh, looks like Elliot Yamin is about to go next. If only because Paris had a strong showing this week.
Hopefully next week, though, Paris gets booted. Or even better, a lot of people stop voting for Chris Daughtry for his terrible second song (and I wasn't impressed with his first song either) and gets booted this week, Paris gets booted next week, and we have Elliot (who has since improved his looks enough for my brain NOT to scream "The Rat Villain in Captain Planet" everytime I see him ~ so now everyone can appreciate his voice better), Katharine (the only hottie left. brilliant choice of Black Horse & The Cherry Tree and constant smoldering looks at the camera this week btw! not to mention it's country! haha! very smart move!) and Taylor (his Something is really something) for the final three - yeah my favorites!
The only sad thing is, and this has probably been said before, Elliot lacks discernable personality, which might prevent him from winning the competition. And what he lacks is something Paris, Katharine and Taylor have in spades. (I still think Chris is generic rocker) Hopefully americans can identify with his plain looks, or that he lasts long enough in the competition to let his personality shine. :crosses fingers:
No question that Katharine will win this though. :p

I'm guessing it's going to be Taylor who's going to be the next AI. ^^ But the top three people are going to make multi-platinum albums. The battle was so close!
Notice that in the plaque given to that Clive dude, only Clay Aiken and Bo Bice are non-winners who made it to that plaque?
And I have yet to buy Bo Bice's CD. I really don't like Carrie Underwood. ^^;;; And I don't believe that she's going to outsell Kelly Clarkson, as per Simon's prediction.

My money's on Katharine on this one, even though she can't take direction. I don't know whether she has problems with authority, a really really big head, or just too damn young, but she can't take direction for the life of her. Her Somewhere Over The Rainbow was amazing, but Taylor's so good that his second song wasn't outshun by it! I was moved by that song - it was just so intense, I literally shed a single tear.
but still because Katharine is female, hott, good, and has potential to be great, she will win.

I also got this URL just this morning that Yahoo! featured as the most accurate prediction site online:
http://dialidol.com/asp/predictions/Predictions.asp (they measure busy signals, not actual votes). But I just got this this morning. I was already thinking the top scores were his before I even saw the site.

After Chris got booted out, I was rooting for Taylor. Of course I like McPhee and I believe she sings better than Taylor. (Heck, better than Underwood and Paris because while both have natural vocal power, they cannot control this power the way McPhee does.) But Taylor really knows how to make a crowd go wild. It's all about performance. Hehe.
I hope the Judges for Philippine Idol are as smart as the three in AI. Gawd knows, some idiots here think that singing is all about belting out and shouting. A good singer knows how to modulate and shift keys without much difficulty.

McPhee didn't know what her strengths are, and couldn't play to it like Taylor can. But her shining moments were great. I know she'll be a great artist someday.
The only reason Black Horse & The Cherry Tree worked for her the first time was because it was intimate, magical. The finals performance sucked big time because she took the intimacy away. She never did know how to play to the crowd or the camera, even when she was instructed by Rod Stewart to do so. that stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid girl.

Yeah, I don't think she got the hint when Simon said that in one of her songs, her entrance was great (she was modulating, playing between the chest and head registers) but that the rest of the song sounded exhausting (she kept belting out all throughout). I think she should've just sung "Someone to Watch Over Me". She did really great with that one and it showed how masterful she was at controlling her vocals.
I mean, jeez...we all know she has fantastic vocal range. No need to exhaust us with it.
