The content of this film, the screenshots and the trailer itself are not recommended for the younger users of these forums.

A new spin on the infamous figure of The Blood Countess. This film includes nudity, lesbianism, graphic violence, kinky eroticism and other aspects deserving of the above warnings.

SYNOPSIS: While searching for his missing wife, Detective Raymond Pope happens upon the estate of the mysterious Elizabeth Kane. Unbeknownst to him, it is believed that Elizabeth is the reincarnation of a vampire who, four centuries ago, killed 650 women and bathed in their blood to gain the gift of eternal life.

While Pope investigates deeper into Elizabeth's past, he neglects to see how his searching could be the end to him and those he loves.

Uhh...I do like horrors, especialy vampires...But this film seems to be more focused to the countess' sensuality, so...Maybe i'll pass if it's in here...I like the serious one.

The countess actually existed (historically speaking) and she wasn't really a vampire. She was delusional and thought that blood would make her retain her youth. (She died alone, locked up in a tower for her atrocities.)

I guess, it would be something to romanticize her. Vampires are all about romance anyhoo.
Algolagnia-Volcae
Vampires are(if they existed), in my opinion the lowest form of undeath.

I will probably never see the movie, but it is interesting to say the least. I would hope it actually has a strong storyline, good acting and more ... not simply turn out as a "sex" movie.

Judging from the site, it looks like a b-grade movie. ^^;;
Algolagnia-Volcae
So was Rocky Horror Picture Show, El Topo, Eraserhead, Night of the Living Dead, etc.
skysenshi
Hahaha! None of which I've seen (or heard, except for Night of the Living Dead and only because my siblings kinda find it funny). We usually watch Asian horror flicks in these areas. (The b-grade ones we have are usually forgettable.)

I did notice that Hollywood tend to make remakes of these Asian classics and destroy the feel.

Rocky Horror Picture Show, El Topo(started the midnight movie "scene"), Eraserhead, Pink Flamingos, etc are from a group of films called Midnight Movies. They did not do well with actual "releases" but instead became cult classics with HUGE fanbases when they were shown at midnight with only word of mouth as the main advertising of the films.

Rocky Horror for instance is still shown in two to three theatres(or more) in almost every state. In other words it has been "in theatres" continuously for thirty so years(released originally in 1975) and still draws sell-out crowds to the theatres that play it, as tradition dictates at midnight showings.

If that doesn't speak enough of the worthwhile nature of some b-grade movies I don't know what will.
Kyubi Kitsune
Haven't, and probably will never, seen it, but from what I've read about it El Topo is more of arthouse film that was made on a bad acid trip than a Midnight/B-movie. Reading reviews of B-Movies is a small interest of mine, and one of the very few times I've ever seen it mentioned was when someone was making fun of another person's post on a message board...

Guess we must have different meanings...

Well, I guess it's only in the States that these titles got popular. They're virtually unknown in these parts, which is unusual for Hollywood movies since Asians are Hollywood-obsessed. While I do watch b-grade movies out of sheer morbid curiousity, the b-grade ones that make it big in the States don't usually make it big in Asia. And if they do make it here, they're treated more like comedy flicks than horror movies.

(I notice Asians love Quentin Tarrantino movies...I have no idea why...although I liked his From Dusk Till Dawn mainly because of Salma Hayek's dance scene.)

Some of the films that make it into Asian art theaters are indies and European classics. As for horror flicks, it's usually still the Asian ones (mostly, Japanese, Taiwanese, and Korean...our country, in particular, is obsessed with Korea @_@). I also consider as classics the earlier silent horror movies.

In Response To Kyubi:

It's more of a weird spaghetti western than a b-movie, that I will agree with. It was however the original midnight movie, that is a fact and so I won't argue it's place in the Midnight Movie collection with you.

All of the midnight movies made a statement or expressed an opinion relevant to the times. They simply don't relate to people like they once did so the "advertising" for them has faded. The internet is basically another form of the midnight movies tried and true advertising, word of mouth ... but the films are often times examined with current thought, and compared to more recent films resulting in a cheapened experience.

Basically the point is, even if it is a b-movie or goes straight to video it could easily become very popular because it impacts people on a level deeper than merely entertainment.

I won't go rushing out to see Eternal in theatres, but I will probably end up renting it when it comes out on DVD. By no means do I expect it to make an impact such as the Midnight Movies and others ... but maybe, just maybe it could be such a film and all it will take to realize it is to get past initial appearance and opinion.

^ Notice how I expertly brought that little rant back onto topic near the end.

In Response To Sky:

Several of the opinions, and statements in the Midnight Movies were focused toward American politics, etc. Such as Night of the Living Dead starring a black man when it was released.

The distribution of many of the films were not handled by an actual film company, but rather by the stars, director, etc themselves because of the lack of popularity in the films(due to poor distribution, and in some cases the fact they were not seized upon by the "mainstream" populace of the time) or the shortsightedness of the people who were sent a copy reel in hopes they would purchase the rights to it and help distributing it.

Geh, can't see the trailer.

It really looks like a b-grade movie. The pictures kinda remind me of that movie with Van Damme and Dennis Rodman (Double Play?). I don't think this will hit our theatres thanks to the valiant censorship existing in this country.

Well, it's kinda surprising that something like this was greenlit - if it is seen as a B-movie.

My guess is that it was sitting in the can or production room of a rival studio when "Queen Of The Damned" (by WB) was announced. Then after the tragic Aaliyah plane crash, the rival studio decided against completing/releasing it partly due to fears of poor box office take - especially with the hype of Aaliyah's demise generated for Queen.

Then with the poor reviews, people forgot about it. Then some junior producer, thinking of making a name for him/herself unearth this gem and decides to release it to the world. Hey, they spent money making this film, might as well release it... but also, it may not sell well like how it was shot originally - include lesbian scenes!

sorry for my cynicism, but that's the hollywood system for you. That's why there was Pirates of the Carribean and Sinbad movies. Dreamworks thought Pirates was going to be an animated feature featuring the voice of Johnny Depp. When one studio announces they're making a space movie, other studios will rush to see what space movie scripts (good or bad is unimportant) and rush the greenlight on those projects.

So maybe Eternal is another victim of that. Though any midnight viewing of this is bound to include a box of tissues and fertile imaginations.

Just from the trailer the film already has several demographics covered on "eye candy": - S&M/Bondage, Males 18-The age Viagra doesn't even help with, Lesbians, Goth Culture(the living "vampires" fall into this category also), and Female Serial Killers are the main ones that jump to mind right now.

Oh, yeah. Censorship in this country is just plain ignorant. Then again, it's because we're too lenient in letting the wrong age group into theaters...

But if you don't let in the minors, how will the grown ups understand anything that's going on? We need these kids to explain it to us.

Adult: "You can do that?"
Kid: "Not only that, but if she arches her back slightly more..."
Adult: "No way! That's gotta be CG!"
Kid: "Actually, this actress is known for it..."
Adult: "Wow!" *takes down notes*
