I hope I didn't leave any other big names out. Taco Bell doesn't count because they have cinnamon swirl things (I don't know what they are).
Basically tell which fast food joint has better fries. Try to explain why even though its personal taste.

Arby's Crispy Curls all the way.
How'd I'd rank them, starting with the better ones...
Arby's
Other
BK
Wendy's
Friendly's
McDonalds
Since I've never eaten there, Denny's is not ranked.

mcdonalds. (duh)
I have no idea what Arby's, Denny's and Friendly's is, but Mcdonalds sure as heck destroys Wendy's and BK's fries where I come from. Mcfries are crispier, oilier(haha) and yummier. BK fries taste funny, and Wendy's fries taste like they're made of sweet potatoes.
KFC fries almost beats mcdonald's though. Mmm chicken drippings and oil.

considering i'm not a big fries person, let me have a go.
Dining in restaurant, have to go with McD's. The salt, while sometimes excessive, at least doesn't overpower a fry into submission, and while crispy, aren't diamond tough.
Take away, avoid the fries. McD's get damn limp really quickly.
But I know who makes the worst fries. Burger King in my opinion. Maybe being expert burger broilers also makes you lousy french fry fryers.

If AND ONLY If we're allowed to pic Curly Fries, then Arby's. Definately. I have never had regular fries at arby's, because their fries of the curly variety are so good. If not, then probably other. Hardees had some that were way too good.

BK's fries are absolutely the worst, but I'd have to disagree with Kuni and say that Wendy's beats McD's for me. My usual McDonald's experience is that the fries are drowned in salt.
That said, do you guys prefer potato skins on your fries or not? I happen to like potato skin on fries. Gives it a different kind of texture, you know?

Since I like KFC's fries with their gravy the best and it's not on the list, I gotta go with McDonald's fat-full fries.

McD's is the place I usually go to for fries... Wendy's fries wierd me out somewhat... and for what reason? I dunno... maybe they're a bit on the big side?
No matter what the place though, I always want my fries crispy, long and VERY salty... hehe... I even order extra salt packs for my fries!

There's an option for "Other" in the poll.
I go for the fat KFC fries too. ^^
I wish I tried out Popeye's Cajun Fries though...They look tasty...@_@
Well if it was from the list, I guess I'm all for McDo... I like the twister fries.... ^__^
Hey, New York fries taste great too!! Got do dig the dips!!

I forgot what I voted for. I love NYFD, but McDonalds is one of the best for me (and NYFD isn't listed here, so I'm not sure if I voted for McD's or Others). I haven't tasted Arby's...I dunno if we have that here.

KFC fries are tasty, but as far as the regular fries go, I always like Wendy's best among all other fast food chains outside my university (that includes McDonald's, Jollibee, Tropical Hut, etc).

McDonald's fries are the one I voted for. They're tasty, with the exact saltiness and crunchy. Just make sure you eat it right away or they'll limp out on you. :buck:

McDonald's for me.
I like 'em hot, deep fried and salty.
I agree them fries go limp after some time.......which is why I ask them to put my fries in a paper bag instead of a plastic one.Limpy soggy fries are a no-no desuuu.....

It's no fun eating them limp, soggy and wrinkly, elfboy. Thanks for the laugh, hentai! :ok:
I don't like NYFD too much. A&W sloppy fries are so much better. ^__^

Of course, McDonalds has fries that appeal to me simply because they have the right crispyness and crunchiness...they must have some special secret ingridient for that, honestly. But I happen to have a strong affinity for Arby's. BK's are horrible (no taste), Denny's have better fries than Friendly's, Friendly's are made for ice cream, let's just face it...and Wendy's are just okay.
And I happen to enjoy limpy, soft fries as well as the crunchy ones... Don't start elfboy...

My best fries pick goes to Wendy's for their great taste and generous portions. My WORST fries pick goes to White Castle, who's crinkle-cut fries tend to be mushy and undercooked.

And hey, I'm not the one saying I like limp salty things. I hate fries remember. :)

Not really. Yet weirdly, my friends and I make an hour-long pilgrimage there every couple of weeks. We get a few things of soggy fries, they get burnt hamburgers, I get burnt chicken or mozzerella sticks (not much of a burger guy), and we complain about the crappy food and watery drinks for another hour on the way home.
In that respect, White Castle has some value as a social experience.

Wendy's fries are the best! McDonald's fries are okay, but they do get limp quickly...mostly because they are so narrow. For some reason I prefer my fries short and thick like Wendy's rather than those skinny things McD's dish out. You can barely even dip McD's fries into Ketchup.
I agree with the others, Burger King has the worst fries. I have never had a single box of BK fries that weren't overcooked or overgreased. Yuck.
White Castles has great onion rings. And their burgers are absolutely delicious when it is 2am and you are drunk and starving but Wendy's and McDonalds are already closed...

drunk and
starving.
Luckily there's at least one 24-hour McDonalds drive-through near where I live.

I dunno about Wendy's fries. The past two Wendys I've eaten at can't seem to cook the fries right. One batch was noticeably undercooked and the batch I had today was just bland and limp.
Crispy Curls aside the best fast food fries I've had were Steak Escape's. Instead of precut, frozen, and heavily processed stuff at the major chains, the fries are made fresh daily from whole potatoes and fried in peanut oil. Too bad I despise the management at the local SE, and haven't eaten there since I quit.
The most unique fries I've had were at a small restaraunt in the Hamptons. French Fries made from Sweet Potatoes are quite good. :ok:

I do wish more and more establishments gave you old school fries (you know, the thick fries). They taste more potato-ey and a slight dab in sauce doesn't drown them.

Rarely ever eat fast food, and when I do, it's usually Chinese or Japanese, but I'll throw in my experiences anyway.
Of those listed, McD's are the best, taste-wise...the crispness is nice too, and I don't mind the sogginess from dipping them, although when I have the option, I prefer some of the McNugget dipping sauces over ketchup. A&W fries are slightly better when fresh, but often come cold. The KFC fries I've had tend to be soggy and rather tasteless. Never eaten at Wendy's, never heard of Friendly's, never eaten at Arby's, and hate Denny's with a passion and when I do end up eating there, almost never order stuff with fries anyway.
NY Fries taste good, and have lotsa good dips, but I can eat only a very small amount of them without getting painful stomach cramps. Chip wagons in Ottawa, Canada are the best, especially the one by Gatineau park and the one by the University of Ottawa (or at least they were when I lived there), although at the Ottawa U one, you're better off with the spring rolls, which are just divine.
I typically prefer thicker fries as well, if I'm gonna eat fries...but if I'm gonna eat a fast food burger, I'll take fast food fries with it.

A&W died in this country. After more than half a century of service...they died. I mean jeez, what do you expect when they suddenly start telling you, "Ah, our root beer float is no longer available."
(That root beer float was the only reason we went there...)

Sep 13 2005, 04:04 PM
No freakin' way!!! A&W with no Root Beer?!!!
Oh, Root Beer Float. Ice cream on top... plop fizz!
Okay, I only go to A&W for two things: Root Beer & Onion Rings! (they used to make the most kickass onion rings on the face of the planet!)
Who is the genius who decided, "Hmmm, let's remove the one money maker we had."
It'll be like Starbucks saying, "there's no more free wi-fi here. If you want that, there's Joe's Diner across the street, you cheapskates."

Hey sky! Up until last year, there was an A&W in megamall, where I ALWAYS eat (and get whoever I'm with to eat) whenever I'm in Megamall. Not sure if it's still there. :smash: I love the coney dog there, the rootbeer float and the coney fries.
Brother's Burger offers delicious fries, but I think, better onion rings.
