Sorry, don't know where to ask this, so I figured the social board is as good as any.
Is it possible for 3 completely different people to share the same IP address. Other than using the same computer to connect to the internet.
Any explanation/help is appreciated.
Thanks, in advance.

if all 3 peeps are on one LAN (local area network) which shares an internet connection, they have the same IP...

Hmmm... didn't think of that possibility. Thanks Ichi. :agree:
Or are there even more explanations why 3 people can share the same IP?

Another possibility (which I just learned about, unfortunately!) is when your PC (or someone else's PC on your LAN with shared connection) is infected by a backdoor virus which allows remote access. The attacker logs into the infected computer and connects to another site or computer from there. When that's done, the IP address is traced back to the infected computer.
See my recent posts in the Rants Place.

I have read the Rants Place, Katana no Mommy, and I'm so sorry you're affected like that.
Sometimes I sympathize with hackers, but when they do harm to individual users like this case, I sure hope their asses are put in prison (where they become someone's wife). :angryfire:

Thanks Elf. I guess I was just unlucky enough to be the one hacked. What really pissed me off was that my host actually thought I was the one doing it (geez, I reported it no? how could they possibly suspect me?!) Oh well. Hope nobody else from OB goes through this .. I think I developed high blood pressure ... :(

Hackers actually do tinkering for the greater good. It's because they want to experiment and test the limits of a system.
Now if hackers use their abilities to cause harm to other people, they are now called "crackers".

hackers, crackers, phreakers, ek ek... i can't speak on behalf of the population, but alot of those in the philippines are wackos. i'm not generalizing. i'm just saying that alot of them are wackos. that doesn't include me.
as for those in abroad, kids as young as 13 are very resourceful and at times use information on the web as a plaything. oh well. that's freedom for you. :(

Thanks for the heads up on Hackers, Crackers, and Phreakers Sky. I agree that hackers in general hack for the greater good (though there are a lot of peeps out there who claim to be hackers but are actually crackers)

Is it a four number match, or just three?
121.79.103.112 and 121.79.103.118 could be totally different people on the same internet service provider.
Kinda on topic, Phreaks really shouldn't really be bunched in with hackers or crackers IMO... different things.
For thos who don't know, phreaks are specialists in phone lines, and cause all sorts of mayhem through and against phone companies. The most famous phreak was John Draper (AKA Captain Crunch), who popularized a technique of using various pitched whistles to manipulate payphones. The right whistle used to get you free long-distance. :)

It was an EXACT match, Status  ... and I was really pissed off. Thankfully the creep is gone.
