Full Version: What does your name mean?
Otaku Fridge - Boards > MISCELLANEOUS > Social Boards
ChennehCis
I see alot of people's names and I'm interested in how your name came to be. (BTW If this post/thread has been done before please delete it. I hate dbl posts...)

My last name is Chen and basically I spelled it backwards and added it to my last name,

ChennehC

that's why I capitalize the C at the end and because it rhymes with Genesis, I added an "is" to the end and made it

ChennehCis! :agree:

I created this name last summer (of 02) and if you EVER see this name. You will know it's ME. It's so unique and I like it alot

How did you guys get your names?

How come theres skysenshi, firesenshi and other senshis? Did you guys collaborate in the making/registration of your names? And how do you guys have MAAAAD Posts? Did you combine all the posts from the previous OB boards or no? But yea, propz for having so many posts, it's one of the only ways to determine someone's dedication to a site.
MarkPoa
Real name. (Like, duh  , right?)

Actually, my younger brothers and I all have "Mark" in our first names. So, in RL, we're usually called by our second first name. However, I used this when I first started writing online fanfiction and have used it online since then.
Tajiri
 I chose the name of the greatest asian wrestler in America! After Steamboat, Ultimo, Tanaka, Fuji, Sasuke's brief stint in ECW...

Well, mine's pretty obvious.
(for those people who don't know, I got it from TRIGUN. )

No originality but hey, I just love the guy! (and when I say love, I mean it in a non-yaoi way. :smash: )

Well, yeah, you could say that.
The Senshis and the Darths are the admins. :cheesy:

How come theres skysenshi, firesenshi and other senshis? Did you guys collaborate in the making/registration of your names? And how do you guys have MAAAAD Posts?  Did you combine all the posts from the previous OB boards or no?  But yea, propz for having so many posts, it's one of the only ways to determine someone's dedication to a site.

Actually, all of the members of the senshi 'Clan' are relatives. Only members of the family are admins, we have a long running joke that all you'd have to do to take over the board is marry a senshi. :nuts: I've proposed to firesenshi on several occasions. ^_^;;

The active senshi here (Fire, Sky and Thunder) were involved in Sailor Moon fansites on various levels, so they each took on a senshi identity. The males go by Darth ______, and Ichi is... well... Ichi.

And Sky has so many posts because she has to respond to pretty much all of the complaints/questions/bitches around here. The same goes for most of the mods/admins. There are 2,500 posts in the mod lounge relating to site business, warnings, maintainance, etc. from the past year give or take, so that's where a lot of the 'boost' comes from. I'm closing in on having more posts in the mod lounge than the social boards.

And lastly, nope! During the last major relocation of OB, the database was lost (for the third or fourth time) and we were all reset. With all of her old posts, Sky for instance would be well over 10,000 posts.

...as for my nickname, they call me Status because I am. Don't think about that too hard. :buck:
LewsTherin
Name came from a character in the Wheel of Time saga by Robert Jordan.
Bluemaxx
I think I posted the origin of my name before......but nevermind,I'll post it again.....

I like the color blue A LOT(like to the max?get it? ) coz the color soothes me and is pleasant to the optic senses etc...etc...etc....

So put those 2 words together and you get blue-max.......and then *POOF!* BLUEMAXX
Shunichi_Sakurai
Hmmm...here we go again...

I sketch my own characters, and I try to give names to all of them. I got "Sakurai" from Mr. Jun Sakurai, one of Square's CG artists.

As for "Shunichi"...I played around with "Shoichi," a character from the JET TV J-drama "The Last Love." He's the jealous suitor of the main character Aya(?) portrayed by Takako Tokio.

Little did I know that "Shunichi" was a real Japanese name after all. I was pleasantly surprised.
Katana no Miko
I chose mine in honor of my then-favorite anime series ... "Katana" (because "Sakabatou" had too many syllables) for Rurouni Kenshin and "no Miko" for Fushigi Yuugi.

Simple, ne?
Mookamori
Mookamori...ah, there's a conundrum...

Where I got it...well, I really have no idea. It just came along, I suppose. It was originally just Mook. Then Mookbot. Then Mook "Bots" Debruga. (don't ask where I got Debruga  ) Then, wanting to have a Japanese tone to Mook, it turned into Mookamori. Okashi, neh?
elfboy
My nickname in High school was the freak.

my really really ancient persona was elfreeko (el monstruo - the freak in spanish was taken). But everyone called me freak, freek... and elf, elfy, elfie not too long after that.

but elfboy came in after I had to re-register one of my online subscription accounts, and it stayed. besides I prefer elfboy.
Voldemort
Yet another thread that's bound to hit over a hundred pages in short time...

Wish I can start something like that.

TRP

Voldemort- It's my alter ego when I intend to do something... err... bad. If I want to register for Hentai, I use Voldemort. But thanx to OB, Voldemort is now this "Fun-loving guy who's into Chinese girls with glasses, and doesn't know how to shut his mouth..."

Mister Vader- From that old joke... why do his troops call Darth Vader "Lord Vader"? Representative of my mischievous side.

Ertai- Overall nice guy side...

More identities to follow. :)
Gr0undZer0
When I was thinking for a name, which was almost 3 years ago, a very loud jet passed by... then I thought of the word groundzero.. then I used it ever since.. :cheesy:
Voltage
Why Voltage? It sounds nice. Haha.
Half of it is my real name.
Lizard
Got the name Lizard because I needed an online name and my mom at the time was buying all these plastic lizards and leaving them on top of the monitor.
shinko_itansha
According to the Freelang Dictionary Shinko means "true, genuine, real."
I haven't seen this anywhere else, so I like it all the better. Itansha is ita'nsha converted to a namelike form.
shinko = true
ita'nsha = heretic
thus
Shinko Itansha
Sort of True/Genuine Heretic. I picked it because there is not one single other person I have ever met who has the same set of values, beliefs and thoughts as me. All alone... 'Course I'm probably wrong, heh. I'm happy to be different, and plus this was the only one of my old aliases (aliai?) that wasn't already taken on Yahoo (Which I don't even use anymore  ). I used to be also be known as Murova and Trylovolt.
ichi
QUOTE (Status @ Apr 28 2003, 09:50 AM)

ichi comes from ichi wichi, coined by firesenshi's sister (who isn't from OB). dunno why, but she said it just sounds funny. :buck:
nib
nib came from my excite e-mail address, which was wrongly typed by my bro (it's a hand-me-down addy). It's the nick I've stayed with for the longest time...

I've grown to like it really :D it's easy on everything :) I think it looks best in lower-case even ^^

oh yeah, what it means  well it can mean the nib of a pen/any writing instrument, or "nib" as a shorthand of nibble, among other things...though I didn't have these in mind when I logged in with it as my third nick in OB
skysenshi

You forgot icesenshi...she had the most popular senshi shrine among us (I dunno...I think SailorMercury seems to be very popular).

Lovesenshi doesn't count cos she isn't active in OB, but her nick is also based on her site for SailorVenus.
Omni Existence
hmm.....

Omni- all, universal
Existence- continued or repeated manifestation

...but really, I just heard it from Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer. Omni Existence is (IIRC) the bad "thing" that they have to fight off to prevent the irradication of man. Sounded nice so I used it :)

And Icesenshi was active... when? Two OBs ago?

Don't get me wrong, I love her as much as the next guy (okay, maybe less than Kuni...), but she's never around anymore. :(
Kyubi Kitsune
My name is Japanese for nine tailed fox. Back in a previous incarnation of OB I had to reregister and the board would not let me use my previous alias, OJ (no, not as in OJ Simpson). So at the time I had been doing a little reading in Asian folklore, and I found foxes to be interesting creatures... so I picked this name.
azariel
hmm...azariel...i found my name in a Dictionary of Mythology in the school library a long time ago.... Azariel was the angel of the waters of the earth in Hebrew mythology. [different from Azrael mind you, the angel of death... whose name I've also always liked but found too commonly used.] It has a literal meaning which I forgot. Anyway I like the way it sounds and I've always liked angels and "angelic" names. [Angel Sanctuary!!!]

Blame it on the lack of internet connection. I dun even see her around anymore, not even offline because she never knows when the next OB EB will be.

I wonder how Kuni got his...
Splender
My name is the name of a band. I couldn't think of anything...then I looked up and saw the cd cover.
kitkat
i got it from the chocolate-coated-wafer i've always loved...

You're named after a candy bar? Give me a break...

*dodges thrown vegitables*

scarlet
i was supposed to use azure but seeing that there were many names related to the color blue, i decided to choose another name of a color which was a bit interesting. i was thinking of using crimson but it sounded like a guy so i used another which was scarlet...

another reason:
i have a small scar (hardly noticed) above my nose. i got it last october 2002. so i got the word scar from my scar and let which often means small or little.
Tomiko Wa Kawaii!
my name comes from tomiko van, the vocalist of do as infinity. she's so kawaii!!! and she rocks!!!
JeremiahConrad
Jeremiah Conrad was a 6th grade soft sculpture project.

You know those sculptures where you stuff a nylon stocking with cotton and sew a face in it. Usually there faces of little old ladies for some odd reason.

Mine was a ruff and tumble Special Forces Green Berret (we had to come up with a story for background for them).

The actual name derives from an accident, we had to mark our initials on the sock so we knew who's was who's. I put my initials on the wrong part of the stocking, leaving the letters JC right where my sculptures face was, so it immediatly became a tattoo for my sculpture and thus i picked the name Jeremiah Conrad.

Hes been an alter ego of mine since then.
Kamisama
Kamisama or Kami-sama mean god in japanese language...Heh,i'm 'playing goddes' right now
Sesshomarulocked
I have been looking around and I have noticed that some people have names that don't make much sense (To me). So I thought that if they have an avatar topic and a signature topic so we should have a name topic.

So just say what your user name originated from or what it means.
Demonseed
Nothing to do with the movie of the same name. It comes from a misheard lyric in a Slayer song (can't remember which song, it's one of the ones on Decade of Aggression). Dunno what's actually being said in the song. Anyway, I started using the name as my artist name when I was into playing deathmetal guitar, then also used it as my screen name on BayMOO when I first joined there back in '93 or so. Now I use it as my artist/DJ name sometimes, for hard aggressive music like this evilstep drum'n'bass mix.
xxMecha_Lordxx
i love n collect mechas...mainly gundams...but mechas non the less...n lord...well just to show how much i love mechas...plus i used his on my aa a long time ago...and my screen name has the same initials as my real name...
plus me n a couple of friends had similar screen names...my friends were anime freak and game wiz...so i got mecha lord...
Larghaz
What does your name mean?

The boards already has a thread with the exact same topic name.

Use the Search button next time.

I also answered this question before in the Person Above Me game. Here's my answer.

Origin of my OB name
Merauder
Oh I yust stalk around the web looking for interesting tidbits, get out of it wathever I can find, move on again. My hobbies change kindoff a lot. (don't worry though, have been an Anime/Manga/Hentai freak for 5 years, that won't go away anytime soon.)

That's kindoff like a poacher, or raider, or Marauder in difficult english.

I'm also a Mechwarrior freak (if anyone knows that game) and have a liking for all things mecha. One of the Battlesuits you could choose from MC2 was the Merauder
(Next to the warhawk and the Executioner if I can remember that clearly)
So that's with the small typo e instead of an a in Merauder
Ristle
I was playing a MMORPG called "Graal" (Ok its not massive) but I became a regular to a server, and everyone started to know who I was, so I wanted a name that no-one had so I was distinctly ME, as I been using names like "Cloud" and "Seifer" etc. For some reason, the name Ristle came to me, and I liked it. Btw, its Ris-Tul, not Riss-el as people keep pronouncing it >.<.

I can't believe this thread hasn't been merged with the orignial "What Does Your OB Name Mean?" thread. I already posted the link to the old thread.

Wow, demanding!

Well, we were a bit busy with stuff and some mod/admin problems at the back-end. Plus some IRL personal issues that we each hafta resolve.

Anyhoo...I believe I already answered what my nick meant. If I haven't, well... Skysenshi --> Warrior of the Sky.

If that's the case, can I be Bedsenshi?
ninjapeps
a fusion of my nicknames from grade school and high school.
Shiryou
Uh... Shiryou is Japanese for "spirit [of a dead person]"

Long story that no one here would understand... so I won't explain it.
