I've just been watching battle royale 2 on DVD (Finally got the watch the end. Hard living with a 4 yr old.), and my mum asked me, "Why do you like such violent films?" I got thinking, why do I?

I realised that the reason I like this film, and the original is that they are some of the most amazing pieces of cinematography I have ever seen. The way the deaths are so real, great acting, and setting the sad endings of characters to classical music (A technique i'm going to incorporate into the script of a anime I'm writing).

Although the gore level is high (And this film is a cult hit), I see the actual reason for the films success is the quality of the directing.

What I want the know is, What do you think of the films? Do you think their message is show well? Anything you have to say about the films, put it here.

There was an old thread about this before, but not talking about the movie. It's OB Battle Royale. Instead of the students, it's OB members who are stuck in an island to kill each other. That's how I learned of the movie. Maybe you guys can look that thread up too. :ok:

The movie was ok, a little bit on the overrated side. Takeshi Kitano was great as the teacher.

There's a Battle Royale manga which I'd recommend over the movie anyday. Character design aren't the greatest at times, but the manga takes more time to develop the characters involved.

The manga version is definitely 100% better than the movie. To give the movie credit, it tried its best to encapsulate in one and a half hours what took the manga nearly 9 volumes (or more? I'm not sure since I haven't gotten past volume 7 yet) of story. Individual characters were given ample time to be shown in the manga, unlike in the movie, where they're usually killed off 10 minutes after appearing onscreen. :)

Haven't seen Battle Royale 2 yet, though.

Battle Royale II isn't as good as the first.
