Heads up guys! I'm inviting new and former OB Invitational League team owners to join this year's Otakuboard's NBA fantasy league.

Ok, former team owners might be surprised on why am I the one who started this league for this year. Well, former Commissioner Tomiko assigned me to do this and reasons for him passing the league responsibilities to me is not yet known. :D

But still, I hope former team owners will join me again for the league's 3rd year competition. And for new owners who plan to join us, you're very welcome. :)

We'll be having a maximum of 12 teams this year, but I've only set the league to 10, just like last year. If there will be additional team owners from OB who wants to join, I'd be glad to adjust the maximum team settings. :wink:

All you need to do is go to the main page and create an account. Then after you log-in, click on the "Join Another League" link and find OB Invitational League 2004-05. Password for the league is otakuboard.

Count me in, as usual. Must try and defend my title this season... I got really lucky last season. People were ignoring certain picks I ended up getting for fear of them getting injured, and then they all suddenly became healthy (Vinceanity, I'm looking at you.)... :D

Okay, not going to be online regularly, but hey, I can still hold court!

Ok, this is how it works. You create a 12 member basketball team composed of NBA players. Scoring for each player will depend on how well they play on each of their scheduled game IRL.

Points won't be based only on each player's points, rebounds, steals and each of the good things their coach tells them to do. Points will be deducted with their every missed shot, turnovers, fouls... you know, the bad things that players do to tick off their coaches. :p

Let's make Stephon Marbury as an example. Let's say he has these stats after his scheduled game:

Field Goals Made/Missed: 12/15
Rebounds: 5
Steals: 3
Turnovers: 2
Fouls: 3

Every made shot is +0.8, for every rebound it's +1.0, for each steal it'll be also +1.0. Now these are the good side of Marbury's performance which equals to 17.6 points.

Now for the bad side. 3 missed shots is equal to -0.2 per miss, turnovers are equal to -0.5 each and -1.0 for each foul which totals Marbury's bad performance to -4.6 points.

So Marbury's total point performance for that particular game is 13.6 points.

Points that add up or points being deducted from your players also depend on their playing time. Each team gets a limited playing time for each position. Centers get 48 minutes of playing time, Forwards get 96 minutes and that also goes for the Guards.

Let's say Marbury is your top guard in your list and he played 40 minutes. All of his 13.6 points will be added to the team points and the other guards still have 58 minutes of game time. But if Marbury is at the bottom of your list of your team's guards, it now depends on how much playing time left there is for him in order for you to get some additional points for your team from his 13.6 point performance.

If, in any case, you didn't quite got what I said back there, just wait until you see your team's scoreboard during a game. But before we start, we're going to have a draft. I'll schedule it once we get 8 or more teams that'll participate.

Currently, we have 7 teams, I'm just waiting for teams to even-out so that I can assign divisions and schedule the draft day. My target schedule is on September 25th at 7:00am(EST). Umm...can I get a briefing here on how the draft goes? I didn't get what Voldee said about being lucky at the draft. :buck:

Drafting players is like a standard NBA draft. Team owners get to pick their players one at a time. You'll make your list of players and if the player in your list is not yet taken, that player will be added to your team roster. If the player is already picked by a different team, that player will be automatically deleted from your list.

About Voldee's lucky draft thing, he had a bad time with Vince Carter in our first season and he tried to avoid him in our last. But all of the players in his list before Vince was already drafted so he was left with no choice but to go with him again, for the 2nd time. Good thing Vince's performance in his games were great and it helped him through our league playoffs. Hence, his team's the champ. :D

it looks like the new commish is doing one great heck of a job! i asked jq2k1 to be this year's commish so that i can focus managing my team (after two frustrating seasons of not being champ! just kidding! :sweatface: ) just entered my Hanzo Steel team, hehe. it's nice to know we have new team owners this time.

For the update, we currently have 8 teams. Should be enough to start a league but don't you think it'll be more fun and exciting if we have 10 or 12 teams? Just to let anyone know who plans to join, i'm setting the deadline on signing up for the league to 24 hours before the scheduled draft begins. Dude, you don't need to be up the whole time when the draft starts. You just need to make a list of the player you wanna play in your team and you let the draft system do it's job. The draft pauses when the next drafting team doesn't have any players left in it's list that the team owner wants to draft.

So, sleep tight and just access the page whenever you're available. :biggrin:

LOL, no salary caps dude...Just make sure you have at least 2 centers, and a good balance of forwards and guards in your roster... :ok:

In reality, salary caps actually work. Some other fantasy leagues do that, so that people don't do the crazy dream teams we guys come up with. Then again, seeing how it works for us, I figure it's fair enough anyway, as most of our teams are sort of dream teams. :)

Draft lists can be registered in the draft section at the site once we start the draft.

I never did know who won the MVP, RotY, and other special NBA awards last season... who's who?

And this season... any standout rookies in the Draft yet?

Last season's MVP is Kevin Garnett. RotY is none other than LeBron James. Rookie players to watch out for are Dwight Howard, Omeka Okafor and Shaun Livingston. :)

Tip of the day: superstars who are in baaad teams tend to carry the team a lot and produce the most output for them. Take note of the Lakers, who only has Kobe Bryant now, for instance... ;)

How're ya doin' with your list guys? Hope it's going well. Anyway, one more team and we're good to go. In case we have the same number of teams we have right now on the date of the draft, one team has to sit out every game day.

one more team to go, at least. we should have an even number of teams. anyway, which players would you get? old reliable vets or young, up-and-coming players? :wink:

I'll go for the veterans. Too much hype for the young 'uns never do them good. Very few live up to the hype, and most of them are not really put on the starting lineups, anyways, especially the RSJ (Rookies, Sophomores, Juniors.)

Rooks, Jr's & Sophs have a better chance of playing (and more minutes too) on a bad team than a good one.

Of course, some great players on bad teams become anonymous on good ones - what ever happened to Andre Miller?

But being only 10 (or 12) teams, hell, there are enough vets around to make a great team.

In fact, all of our first picks are bound to be all stars. 2nd picks perhaps too.

I've got my short list - and i think its got some players nobody would think of acquiring - so i'm pleased with myself. (Famous last words said before a 0-10 start to the season).

I just finished my initial list. I'll likely edit when I find more info and stats on other players. I'll go for vets too since there are only few rookies who stands out these days. As with elfboy, I also have a number of players in my list that nobody would think of acquiring...wait, that makes two of us, so I guess that makes nobody but maybe elfboy would think of acquiring :sweatface:.

That's one center, 2 forwards and 2 guards. ;) And it's up to you how many back-up players you want in your list as long as you think they can produce a lot with the remaining playtime your main players have left for them. :ok:

You realise I have no idea don't you ^_^. Doe's that mean they can only play for so long in a season? Then I gotta back them up or something? *Ish newbish*

Each position is allotted minutes, ex 50 mins for all your forwards. If you fill that minutes and you still have a forward that played, his points wont be added to your score.

I hope all the team owners have prepared their their list of players, wouldn't want the draft to bog down at one point...Btw, how much time is a team owner allowed to decide on a pick? If there is any time limit, what would happen if a team owner exceeds his time limit...

I suppose I'm more or less ready for this season... I have to check my contingency lists this time...
