We have to have at least a few Monty Python fans here. For those who do not know, Monty Python is a group of British (and one Austrailian) guys who perform comedic and downright hilarious skits. They've created 4 movies (Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python's the Life of Brian, Monty Python and the Meaning of Life, and And Now for Something Completely Different) along with 1 live show (Monty Python: Live at the Hollywood Bowl) and numerous TV episodes that aired on British television.
Come on. Anyone have a favorite movie or skit? As for me...I'll take Life of Brian as my favorite movie along with the "Argument Clinic" as my favorite skit itself.

And Now for Something Completely Different? haven't heard of that one. I thought Meaning of Life was the third and last movie they made?

The only MP movie that I saw was "The Meaning of Life", all I can say is, I really wouldn't mind going to a school that had those kinds of sex ed lessons.

Man, you don't realize how obscure Monty Python is in the Philippines. I practically had to hunt down bootleg copies of the three Python films.
My favorite sketch is still "Brave Sir Robin" from Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail. Argument Clinic was very fast and furious exchange; I liked it myself.
And I've always said that "Always Look at the Bright Side of Life" from Life of Brian is one of my fave songs ever. "Galaxy Song" comes in a close second since I'm a solar system nut, but the "Every Sperm is Sacred" song is the funniest when seen. Eric Idle's singing is just marvelous.
And in closing, let me just say... "Ni!"

I kinda liked Castle Anthrax. wouldn't mind being in Sir Galahad's shoes at that point. stupid Lancelot spoiling Galahad's fun.

The fighting Archeologist sketch was the best they did.
Incidently the group kinda did another film i.e. Jabberwocky. It's not Python per se but they were all involved and Palin stars.

Nah, I didn't realize that it was THAT obscure.
Always Look on the Bright Side of Life is the theme song to my life. It's just...so fitting.

You're lucky that not everyone on the boards is German or you'd be guilty of murder. :D

Do all the MP movies follow the same format? I mean "Chapters"?
ninjapeps
Aug 27 2004, 06:43 PM
no, that's just for Meaning of Life. well... Holy Grail sort of has chapters but not really. they just break at certain portions to do more stupid things that have nothing to do with the story.

Parrot sketch, and the Lumberjack sketch, 2 of the best sketches.
And it's nice to see someone who is really in to Python, MarkPoa. I honestly didn't think anyone would catch that one.
I wasn't expecting some Spanish inquisition.

Well technically the parrot sketch and the lumberjack one are actually the same but I'm being pedantic.
I think the funniest thing they did was spilling the urn supposedly containing Graham Chapman's ashes in a tv interview. I laughed my ass off but the audience were horrified.
Sheer brilliance.

Only in "And Now for Something Completely Different" they're sperate sketches on TV. The Lumberjack sketch starts out with Michael Palin as a barber cutting Terry Jones, or trying to cut Terry Jones hair. While the Parrot sketch has Palin sending Cleese to other towns to get his replacement parrot.
"A palindrome, the palindrome for Bolton is Notlob, it don't work"
Only in "And Now for Something Completely Different" do they put them as one sketch.
Ok, now I'm being pedantic.

Seen em' all, love em all.
Crusade for the holy grail and the parrot sketch are my favorites
I in general love all british humor, it's so dry that it's refreshing.
The bunny scene will stay with me forever <snickers>
I think it's brilliantly made to: al they are are a couple of low budget students
I'll never forget the horses they used in the crusade, those weren't in the budget so they used coconuts to mimic the clatter of hooves, they deserve an academy award for the scene were the army came down the hill to lay siege to the french castle.
Inmagine this: a 1000 heavely armed knights storming down a hill , hopping up and down PRETENDING to ride on horses, holding on to inmaginary reins, with another 1000 squires behind them banging coconuts together. It's friggin brilliant.

Gotta love MP. I've seen most of Meaning of Life and all of Holy Grail. I have a collection of some of their sketches on audio, but it's still friggin' brilliant.
