Good luck with the bullet dodging chief, I hope you're out of there soon.

I wouldn't use "enduring boredom" to describe your job, my friend.
Anyways, hope you can get out of there soon. Plus, like malk said, good luck with the bullet(not to mention mortar&rpg) dodgin. :agree:

How could we ever forget that ass thats all good?...

uh, that didn't sound right... not that we were perpectually thinking of your ass mind you... uh, not like we even imagined your as... I think I should shut up now.

Bluemaxx: Yeah. Let's welcome back old soldier boy! Glad to see your ass back here dude.
1ntegra: Glad to be back. Why are you staring at my butt?
Bluemaxx: Just seeing if there's any difference to that tight ass since you left.
1ntegra: ... WHAT?
elfboy: Oh suck it up. You're in the Army now.
1ntegra: NAVY!!!!
Bluemaxx: Ooooh... a seaman.
1ntegra: I don't like the way you said that.
Bluemaxx: Oh, I just love sailor suits.
1ntegra: uh... on Japanese girls right?
Bluemaxx: ... uh, right... on *wink* Japanese girls.
1ntegra: I REALLY don't like the way you said that.
elfboy: But you don't seem to mind that hand on your ass.
1ntegra: ...it's your hand.

elfboy: ... uh... no it's not. I deny all knowledge.
Bluemaxx: your hand is still on his ass.

1ntegra: ... Maybe I should sign up for another tour of duty instead of being stuck with these two.
elfboy: A man in uniform... sigh...
Bluemaxx: ... Oh, shut up. This thing has just become too gay for me.

p/s: Just kiddin' 1ntegra. But(t) I'm sure the rest of us denizens of OB, wherever we're from, value your involvement in keeping the world as safe as it can possibly be - even in foreign shores. And we hope that no matter what happens, you'll still be who you are at the end of it all.

I'd give you a Semper Fi, but you're not in the marines. I don't know the Navy's call. what be it?
1ntegra
well blue semper fidelis works just fine. since im rollin wit the grunts. you ain't gay if your underway works too..how bout hooyah deep sea?... or accelerate your life (from that stupid commercial) or maybe thru the gates of hell for a wounded marine?

enough of all that I wanna know your guys opinion on this matter.... what does the otakuboard think of the operations here in the middle east??
Malachi
At the risk of being labelled as too political and maybe even scolded:

I think they're great... you guys are building a democracy in a sea of authoritarianism. You're helping a people enjoy, for the first time in a few decades, the freedom a great part of the world abuses and/or takes for granted. The word may not mean much for us, but for most of the younger Iraqis, this is their first taste of it!

The nay-sayers don't EVEN have the right to say you guys are wrong and criticize your work! Sure some people may have been lost in the transition, but people need to realize that these things don't work like in anime or fairy tales. It's good to apply principles and aspirations to an operation like this, but oftentimes, the circumstances won't permit that.

I'd like to ask the nay-sayers in turn, "Where were your ideals and rationalizations when the Iraqi Kurds were being gassed? Where were you then? If you're so righteous, as your words seem to portray you, you should have spoken out then, not now."

Liberation is nothing like the rational events in our daily lives, and people need to realize this. People will die or get hurt. It's a fact of life.

Freeing a people from oppression and authoritarian rule shouldn't need a reason! Why is everyone bitching about the reason for the war when what we should be concerned with is the safety and quick repair of a nation freed from tyranny. Blair said it right, but I think was wrong in a small point. He said(well, something like this): "...In the very least, if there are no WMDs found, we'd have liberated a people from a tyrannical regime..."

Blair was wrong thinking that the liberation of these people was the "very least" of their achievements. Because it was the prime consideration for my personal support to these operations. The Iraqis couldn't give a rat's ass about WMDs! What they're thanking us for in those TV shots you see is their freedom!

So IMHO, I'd like to say, Keep up the good work boys! Don't let a few insane terrorists and protesters who're out of touch with the real world kick you out! Between you and them, I'll bet you 10 to 1 I know who'll be recieved in Heaven for their handiwork. Hooyah Deep Sea!

Of course, I don't speak for the boards, this is just my opinion of things.

I just hope you guys finish your work asap.

For those who are involved but not fighting (like politicians...) settle the dang thing asap...

I'm not going to get started on this here (move things to the political thread if I hit a nerve) but suffice to say:

Malachi, you couldn't be more wrong. Well done for eating the propoganda you have been so expertly spoon fed.

1ntegra, I don't agree with the war but that doesn't mean I can't apreciate how difficult it must be out there. Good luck with the peace building.
1ntegra
its good to hear yalls opinion. i cant really comment on what u guys are sayin coz of operational security. hopefully 1 day i get to give my feelings on the matter. all i could tell you guys is life sucks out here. i stink and i sh*t on porta potties and trenches (thank god for baby wipes). reconstructing a government is a bitch.

all i care about is goin home and takin my goddamn vacation. im plannin to go back to the PI next year. hit the beaches of boracay and hittin em clubs. for now i can only dream about it.

finally i respect the different views people have on this war. I know it will affect every persons life in a different way and there is no overall agreement on this situation. maybe someday 50 or 100 years from now the whole iraq thing will be part of our childrens history class and would make more sense after all the reswults have surfaced.

peace out and thanks for your complaints and concerns
Ristle
I don't think you should be out there, but thats just my personal dislike of Tony Blair being led like a sheep (I'm English). I hope you get back ok is all I can say before getting too political .

I'm kinda with malk on this,Malachi.Your post sounds kinda...'preachy' to me. (but then again...i dun support of the whole Iraq war thing so...)

Anyhoo, like you say...to each his own,eh?
As for integra.....i dun support the war, but dude do take good care of yourself over there and I hope that you return to your home to your family, friends and loved ones safely. :)
Post any good war/Iraq stories when you have the time, okay?
Malachi
Yeah, I did come off like that, didn't I? Ah well... never did know when to keep my mouth shut or my opinions to myself.

Guess I'm just verbal like that. But I didn't mean to preach... it just sorta snowballed from the 1st paragraph.
elfboy
Actually, political or not, it don't matter. It's better to say what you think out here and let other people bash your opinions if they want to do that. After all, what politic talk really lacks is the fact that everyone wants to have the popular opinion - not necessarily the right opinion.

I mean, wars have been started with that right?

But 1ntegra, the rebuilding in the Mid East. I know you're following orders and can't tell us anything that may jeopardize the safety of your fellow corpsmen/battalion/squad/group of jarheads and squids.

But how long do you think the rebuilding process will continue? I mean rebuilding all really depends on the natives of the region - how much they want to rebuild after a war. I would think that the hardest thing would be trying to help people who don't want to be helped - even if they are suffering and causing their families to suffer.

But the physical rebuilding - like relaying water pipes, electricity, telephone - how goes the work?

p/s: Sorry if I seem a little out of the loop, but I haven't read a paper or seen the news in a couple of weeks. Been working like a dog.
malk
From what I read between the lines in the press, there is more destruction than rebuilding at the moment but to be honest that's to be expected as the area needs stability first.

The rebuilding will not be for the benefit of the Iraqi people though. The US has already handed out the juicy construction contracts to big W's friends back home. It's all part of the military industrial complex that dominates western politics. Yet another reason why the war was concocted.

As far as I can see it, the American administration (whether republican or democrat) will perpetuate the charade of the Iraqi government as long as it tows the line. As soon as they stop playing ball expect a former Iraqi general to stage a coup. I hope I'm wrong but a century of the Brittish empire followed by nearly a century of the US empire has set the historical precident and it doesn't look good.

Hey, sorry for not getting back to you sooner, 1ntegra.

2006, but you guys would surely be relieved of duty once in a while right? I mean, 2 years is a long time period - not to mention staying away from home.

How many more years mandatory do you have left on your tour?

Look on the bright side, you'll be buff and tough and girls like boys in uniforms and you get breaks on student loans and car loans and stuff.

plus, you get to say: I served my country in a time of war - meaning you are eligible to be President. :) And when I mean President, I mean a good one.

Take care dude, and we all hope that no one dies needlessly out there.
