Full Version: Awkward situations

Just wondering what awkward situations people have found themselves in recently? I personally was out last night celebrating the end of exams (well for them anyway, I've got one in an hour  ) and lo and behold, my two most recent ex girlfriends were in the same bar as me.

Isn't that just a peachy state of affairs, especially since they really don't like each other. I spent half the night trying to avoid one whilst stopping the other from beating her up.

Fun fun fun.

Volume 1: The Pengu at the Rock Show

A while back I did some time in the studio for a band my friend is in called The Vonderhaars - quite creatively after the two brothers who founded the band. At the time, one of the Vonderhaar brothers was literally too drugged out to actually play his guitar parts on the CD, so I was asked to do it, and I did.

The band was configured as such;
The older Vonderhaar was the singer songwriter guitarist frontman
The younger Vonderhaar was the lead guitarist
My friend was the bassist
And some other guy (who's name I don't even know) is the drummer.

Shortly after that recording session, the younger, pot smokin', meth-luvin' brother was kicked out of the band, the older brother became the lead guitarist, his girlfriend became the bands bassist, my friend became the rhythm guitarist. This made my head hurt, but it didn't bother me because I had nothing to do with them at that point...

UNTIL...

It turns out that the album included two songs I'd written *myself* during the recording sessions, re-recorded by them after the fact and without my knowledge.

As 'punk rawk' songs.

I was annoyed. Downright pissed. Especially when I got the final copy of the album, and learned that not only was I not credited for the songs I wrote, but I wasn't credited for the guitar tracks either.

Equally aghast at this, my friend and the drummer (who's name still fails me) FIRED the lead singer AND his girlfriend from their own band.

An hour and a half before a concert.

So they spend half an hour trying to decide what to do, and finally an hour before the show call me and ask how fast I can get to Saint Louis.

So I go to the venue - a glorified basement of a nightclub, under a seedy hotel no less - where I'm greeted by a big scary black guy with a menacing scowl, who apparently noticed I was carrying a guitar. "Are you the guy?" he asks. "I hope not," I reply. Right about then my friend's sister spots me, and drags me backstage.

Apparently we were there to open for a better known local group, and with maybe 100 people in the crowd, we weren't that worried about putting on a good show. Since most of the songs were written for a quartet and there were only 3 of us (and moreover, we hadn't practiced together in months, and had NEVER played these songs without two guitars), things were a bit rough. But we all pulled through somehow.

After maybe eight or nine songs, we took our leave, and the other band took the stage. Once backstage, we were greeted by the club's owner.

William Vonderhaar. The brothers' dad.

Who, fortunately, has a good sense of humor.

STAUS, I love the avatar and the Excel reference in it's quote. You are an artist, musician and you got reemed, then they added insult to injury and asked you to bail them out in a tough predicament that was their own doing. You did it with style, and you could have left them to twist in the wind hanging on the noose they tied to themself, you did not.... you got character pal!

ON TOPIC
Ok as for me, online situations are always a matter of blind faith, and if you get that faith betrayed enough times , trusting someone online becomes harder for the next individual (you follow me?) So it was recently, I have met someone , and had to tell her I was having doubts about her identity and I was afraid she was lieing about some aspect of her life as she represents herself. That was very uncomfortable, and could have ended something badly, she seemed to understand
and provided some more "good faith" proof , Im trusting my instincts on her, which tells me she is not misleading me. I meet alot of nice people online , and sometimes it's by fate , that I am there to help them when they wind up in crisis, and in great need of advice/ support. :)

Wow, Stat! That's a rough deal you got there. But glad you came out of it with all your limbs still attached (and your butt still intact - after all, those people did try to "screw" you over.)

I can only think of the most awkward situation I've been in - but it's not recent.

Just safe to say it involves a very very adult situation with a very attractive woman, in her car which was parked in the carpark of her husband's offices, where he was working late on his project.

The project he was doing was his secretary - but that's another story.

fortunately it was after hours... and no one discovered us.

yes, I've lived a life of complete debauchery and sin. I'm ashamed of myself.

I only have this to share:

When you come down with a runny nose, don't start a smooching session. It's going to be awkward when you have to stop to blow your nose in the middle of a really intense kiss. Your partner will be either disgusted or will dissolve into a pile of giggles.

In case you guys were wondering, it wasn't me who had to blow my nose.
